Research Technician II – Cancer Cell Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine

The lab is looking for highly motivated candidates to join a team of physician-scientists, scientists, postdoctoral fellows, technicians, and graduate students to support research on cancer immunotherapy using CAR T cells. The technician will provide responsible technical assistance supporting research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to basic and translational research in cellular immunotherapy of cancer. 

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information appropriately for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Conducts aseptic cell culture for maintenance and propagation of tumor lines.
  • Handles and processes peripheral blood and immune cells after appropriate training per institutional guidelines.
  • Works on production, maintenance, and cryopreservation of CAR T cells.
  • Conducts genetic engineering techniques that include PCR, cloning, retroviral transduction, and library preparations.
  • Works on flow cytometry alongside immunological assays that include multiplex assays, ELISA, ELISPOT, and Western blotting.
  • Works with mouse models of cancer after appropriate training as per institutional guidelines.
  • Assists in phase I clinical trial-related sample receipt, handling, and documentation with appropriate training and supervision.
  • Performs immunohistochemistry and associated image analysis.
  • Uses office suite, instrument interface, and other software for data collation and analysis.
  • Assists in ordering laboratory supplies with appropriate guidance from the laboratory manager/PI.
  • Assists in the testing of research samples and administrative tasks involved in the conduct of the clinical trial.
  • Performs research experiments to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations in cell and gene therapy applications under the supervision of the principal investigator.
  • Records and summarizes research data generated from experiments prepares figures, and analyzes for presentations and publications.
