PhD Opportunity in investigating bacterial immune mechanisms against phages

In the complex interplay between bacteriophages and their bacterial hosts, anti-phage defense mechanisms, such as the recently discovered Zorya system, play a crucial role. “New concepts in prokaryotic virus-host interactions,” aims to investigate fundamental immune mechanisms of bacteria against bacteriophages through a combination of live-cell microscopy, biochemistry, and bacterial genetics.

The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is located at the Institute of Biology, where the research investigates, molecular mechanisms in bacterial cell biology. Investigates molecular mechanisms in microbial cell biology using a combination of genetic engineering, biochemistry, and advanced fluorescent microscopy techniques.
