Study how bacteria protect themselves from the phages that infect them and the countermeasures that phages use to evade these bacterial immune systems. The postdoc will investigate regulatory mechanisms of anti-phage systems. The postdoc will express and purify recombinant proteins for structural determination and biophysical characterization. The postdoc will also use molecular biology to validate findings in E. coli.
The postdoc will be part of a multidisciplinary team that uses various techniques, including biochemistry, genetics, and structural biology, to understand mechanisms of host defense. They will have opportunities to collaborate, develop their own projects within the lab’s purview, and train/supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
The University of North Carolina’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of the public. It is accomplished by providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research.
