Piper Health & Sciences is looking for a Research Associate (Bacteriology group) to support advanced molecular and microbiological research studies at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD.
Responsibilities for the Research Associate include:
- Assist with microbiological experiments, animal protocols, and bacterial virulence studies.
- Conduct screening assays for medical countermeasures against bacterial pathogens in BSL-2/BSL-3 labs.
- Prepare lab reagents/media, order supplies, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Perform molecular, microscopic, biochemical, and cell biology assays, including DNA and protein analysis.
- Support in vivo studies and perform observations, bacterial burden analyses, and macrophage assays.
- Manage lab data, inventory, and compliance with safety and regulatory protocols.
- Serve as a training representative and review scientific literature.
Qualifications for the Research Associate include:
- 3-5 years of direct GLP laboratory experience performing molecular assays in BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 environment.
- Prior experience working with small animal/in vivo models is preferred.
- Eligibility to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance within the United States.
- Ability to work in a BSL-3+ laboratory environment.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Cell or Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry (or similar) is required.
