The project will involve identification and characterization of modification-dependent restriction enzymes and their inhibitors. The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake a program of research to define how GmrSD enzymes and their derivatives (i) recognize diverse substrates; (ii) bind and cleave modified DNA as part of a multi-step reaction cycle, (iii) contribute to phage defense, and (iv) become inhibited by phage-derived proteins.
The Fellow will apply various techniques including biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, next-generation sequencing, and structural biology.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Plan and conduct experiments to characterize modification-dependent restriction enzymes.
- Develop and implement enzyme assays to aid in vitro and in vivo characterization of modification-dependent restriction enzymes.
- Effectively communicate results to a larger scientific audience through conference attendance and departmental seminars.
- Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.
