PhD Opportunity to work on Isolation and Characterisation of Bacteriophages Against MDR pathogenic Acinetobacter spp. from Malaysian Wastewater

This project aims to isolate and characterize phages targeting MDR Acinetobacter spp. from Malaysian wastewater. The student will perform advanced phage purification and characterization at the Monash Phage Foundry (MUA).

Techniques include phage enrichment and genome sequencing in collaboration with the national wastewater agency and Monash University Malaysia Genomics Platform (MUM).

Research on bacteriophages against Acinetobacter spp. in Malaysia remains limited, presenting a critical research gap. Phage therapy is a promising alternative to combat multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, especially as antibiotic resistance rises globally.
