Develop and employ transcriptomic tools to investigate gene expression in single bacterial cells. The project will focus on microbial pathogens, such as Vibrio cholerae, and heterogenous gene expression events’ role in stress response, biofilm, and virulence.
Study the dynamics of infection, host takeover, and anti-phage defense during the interaction of phages with Vibrio cholerae. Understand these processes at a single cell level and when V. cholerae infects the human host (using organ-on-chip models).
The student will work at Papenfort laboratory (www.papenfortlab.org) at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany).
