About the role

Applications are now open for the position of Research Technician at the Centre for Phage Research, situated within the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester. Bacteriophages, commonly known as phages, are viruses that target bacterial cells and hold promise as novel therapeutics, offering alternatives to traditional antimicrobials. One of the key challenges in translating phage therapy into widespread use is the need to produce large quantities of phages to meet therapeutic demands. This project aims to optimize phage production up to 50 liters. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting specialized laboratory experiments to scale up phage amplification and purify the resulting phages. Additionally, they will meticulously record, present, and discuss experimental data with the project leaders.

About you

The successful applicant will have Technical or Scientific education to ONC or NVQ3 level and experience in phage research as well phage fermentation and purifying phages within a laboratory. The ideal candidate will also have good IT skills and have the ability to work flexibly and organise and prioritise there own workload.
