Biozentrum of the University of Basel

Work as a Postdoc in understanding the role of signal transduction in E. coli bacteriophage infection and defence

The Jenal Lab at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with expertise in molecular biology, microscopy, and/or phage biology to join their team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the interface of bacterial signal transduction and phage biology.

The research group at the Biozentrum is embedded in the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) AntiResist, developing state-of-the-art organoid technology for a better understanding of human infections and fostering antibiotic discovery. The group is also involved in conducting a wide range of assays including cellular and molecular microbiology, advanced microscopy, omics, etc., to reach a detailed understanding of human infections, host response, and drug treatment.

The project aims to understand the role of the second messenger c-di-GMP in E. coli bacteriophage infection and propagation, and to investigate mechanisms that allow the host to escape phage killing by modulating its own signal transduction pathways. The ideal candidate will be working in a dynamic team of researchers with broad expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, and infection biology, and you will be interacting with researcher from neighboring disciplines like structural biology or computational biology.
